YouTube Thumbnail Downloader

Paste a YouTube link and grab its thumbnail in every resolution — including full 1280×720 HD. Free, instant, no login.

Every YouTube video stores its thumbnail at several fixed sizes. This tool reads those public images straight from YouTube and gives you a one-click download for each — from the full 1280×720 HD version down to the small feed size — plus the direct image URL if you need to reference it.

Which thumbnail size should I use?

For studying a competitor or reusing your own artwork, take the Max HD (1280×720) version — it's YouTube's own recommended upload size. The smaller sizes (HQ, Medium, Small) are the exact crops YouTube shows in search results, the sidebar, and the mobile feed, so they're handy for checking how a thumbnail reads at real display sizes.

Want to see how your thumbnail actually looks on YouTube?

Downloading the image is step one. Our YouTube Thumbnail Previewer drops any thumbnail into real YouTube search, home-feed and sidebar layouts so you can spot a weak thumbnail before you publish — and the Video SEO Checker grades the rest of your metadata.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download a YouTube thumbnail?+

Paste the video's URL (or its 11-character ID) into the box above. Every available thumbnail resolution appears instantly — click Download on the one you want, or copy its direct image URL.

Can I get the full HD (1280×720) thumbnail?+

Yes, when the uploader's source image was high-resolution. The Max HD (1280×720) version is shown whenever YouTube generated one; if a video was uploaded with a smaller thumbnail, that size simply won't appear and you can grab the next size down.

Is this free? Do I need to sign in?+

It's completely free and there's no login. The tool only reads public thumbnail images that YouTube already serves, so nothing is stored.

Why is the Max HD or SD size missing for some videos?+

YouTube doesn't generate every size for every video — the 1280×720 and 640×480 versions only exist if the original thumbnail was large enough. HQ (480×360) and smaller are always available.

Can I use someone else's thumbnail on my own video?+

Downloading is fine for reference, inspiration, or analysis, but a thumbnail is the creator's copyrighted work — don't republish it as your own. Use it to study what's working, then make your own.
